NEAAR Represented on National Public Policy Conference in our Nation’s Capitol
Rick Sampson, Center of Substance Abuse Treatment State and Community
Assistance Director, shared the history of CSAT’s 19 Recovery Community Support Project to give a face and voice to addiction recovery. Invited by NAADAC, New England, Virginia, and Pennsylvania CSAT Project representatives presented highlights of celebrations, public education, and marches. The Pennsylvania project actually built houses with Habitat for Humanity- that’s a gift from recovery! Now a National Recovery Movement with assistance from The Alliance Project’s Jeff Blodgett, is moving !
CORI Public Health Council Rendezvous II –March 27th- You are Invited!
The Public Health Council will review CORI regulations, as currently drafted, on Tuesday, March 27th at 10:00 AM. On January 19th, over 160 oral and written testimony were given against the current the CORI regulation. You may send testimony to other EOHHS agencies –Office of Community Correction Services, Department of Social Services, Department of Transitional Services, and Division of Rehabilitation. MOAR Members Develop Recovery Community Action Plans ~ You are invited!
January 25th Springfield – Focus – Recovery Community and Public Outreach-
Attendees – Bill Sciturro, Pete Crumb, Diane Teta, Karen Sullivan, Diane Gahres, Bob Pisani, Tanyss Martula ,Diane Kurtz, Peggy Thorn, George Thorn, Diane Teta, Donna Rivest, Jim Rivest, Roberta Evans, Ruth Jacobsen Hardy and Peter Crumb strategized our role of empowering recovery from our application brochure’s message, public education, building alliances, celebrations—planning for life beyond the current grant. Members called for MOAR simplification of the application brochure that attracts the eye to involvement. Last meeting called for outreach to the medical community in response to the need for greater screenings. Diane Kurtz followed up with a visit to Holyoke Hospital, and an invitation for MOAR to do Grand Rounds. In alliance with the current need for adolescent services and policymaker support-members decided to propose a panel with an adolescent in recovery, a parent, a doctor, and a policymaker. Then members focused on The NEAAR Families in Recovery Celebration for this May!
February 2nd Lowell- Focus – Housing After Recovery Home Graduation –Dialogue with Institute for Health and Recovery’ s Housing Specialist, Nancy Tierney and SHARE Loan Director- Cathy Dwyer-Attendees: Pierre Descoteaux, Janice Archer, Tricia Wood, Daniel Ronan, Lona Demers, Ivelisse Alvarado, Victoria Buckley, Jerry Cormier, Jim Cremer, Jaya Levy, Andrea Canty, Lisa Twente, Daniel Roman, Sandy Gaines, Lynn Sousa reviewed housing options and guidelines via sober housing, ¾ quarter way, grants, and community organizations. A Housing Committee developed from the meeting- and they will meet and report next meeting. Note: MOAR Lowell will participate in National Alcohol and Drug Screening Day – April 5th.
February 14th Boston- Focus – National Alcohol and Drug Screening – Dialogue with MBHP’s Jim LaPrade and Kim Holt- Attendees: Ray Hoitt, Greg Arsenault, John Frazier, Mary Neilson, Jim Carroll, Amos Marshall, John MacIsaac, Dan Lynch, Lisa Clark, Lisa Midwood, and Carol Carey agreed to do recovery community advocacy outreach to parents of adolescents, who are in MBHP contracted mental health services. MBHP’s goal is to diagnose for co-occurring adolescent alcohol and drug use, as an intervention measure. This led to the start of a Speaker’s Bureau Committee with Ray Hoitt, as chair- interested- call him at 617-983-7735. March 7, we focus on Women in Recovery and April Alcohol Awareness Month Activity Planning with Kattie Portis.
January 24th New Bedford Into to MOAR at Substance Abuse Task Force Mtg
Attendees focused on their current energetic list of activities, and ways MOAR would be valuable. Decision to review and meet again during the February 28th meeting.
