MOAR / NEAAR Partner in CSAT Supported Activities to Reduce Stigma
CSAT Grant Workshop
First, MOAR through its affiliation with NEAAR, is in its third year of being a
CSAT, Center for Substance Abuse Treatment, RCSP (Recovery Community Support Project) Grantee. The purpose obviously : to empower the recovery community to demonstrate the positive contributions of recovery,. We have made healthy strides, yet our challenge is far from complete! New grant funding is a goal.
CSAT Recovery Community Support Project Grantee Third Recovery Celebration
" Voices Creating Choices-Communities Creating Change" titled Celebration for the final round of grantee lessons shared and learned round up scheduled for June 18th – 21st in Washington DC. Sara Munro – FOR Vermont, and Phil Valentine –CCAR, NEAAR
Project Coordinators helped design a celebration with recovery creativity. MOAR members, as well as having a BSAS Consumer Advisory Board repertoire, Diane Kurtz and Tanyss Martula will facilitate a Parent Support Group workshop based on their 9 years of experience. Maryanne Frangules will do a Recovery Month Celebration with other grantees, co-facilitated with CSAT’s Ivette Torres, National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month Co-ordinator. Speaking of----

"We Recover Together: Family, Friends, and Community" is the theme- and past
celebrations around the country will be on the website, inclusive of interviews,
scenarios, suggestions for celebrations. We will celebrate at The State House and help---
CSAT Change The Conversation: The National Treatment Plan
MOAR attended a CSAT National Treatment Plan Meeting, on March 2nd . The National Treatment Plan is a composite of testimony regarding five different issues that characterized "treatment" discussions for years.The five areas included- Closing the Treatment Gap. Reducing Stigma and Changing Attitudes. Improving and Strengthening Treatment Systems, Connecting Services and Research, Addressing Workforce Issues. The feedback summarized is placed into a 5 point plan- Invest for Results, No Wrong Door to Treatment, Commit to Quality, Change Attitudes and Build Partnerships. That’s the summary in a capsule. Follow through requires commitment. Open forums, as in Boston will be held. This means the "MOAR Voices" need to be heard..
CORI Public Health Council Rendezvous II –April 24- You are Invited!
The Public Health Council will review CORI regulations, as currently drafted, on Tuesday, April 24 at 10:00 AM. The meeting will be held at The Department of Public Health, 250 Washington St. On January 19th, over 160 oral and written testimony were given against the current the CORI regulation. Collaborations to advocate for employer right to hire employees, who have made restitution are happening! Approval for change must come from The Executive Office of Health and Services
MOAR Members Develop Recovery Community Action Plans ~ You are invited!
February 22nd, Springfield – Focus – Educating Communities, Making Change Diane Teta, Bob Pisani, Tanyss Martula, George Thorn, Donna Rivest, Jim Rivest, Roberta Evans, and Jack Russell followed up on plans to do outreach to the medical community. The Holyoke Hospital Grand Rounds Presentation will probably take place in the fall. Members, also, discussed planning The NEAAR Families in Recovery Celebration tentatively set for this May. Springfield MOAR is very much represented in
The Interagency Youth Task Force facilitated by BSAS Regional Director Ruth Jacobsen Hardy. Treatment gaps, Insurance Coverage, Crisis Team deficits were highlighted-
and next step – steps to address the concerns.
March 9th Lowell- Focus –HART House Hosts MOAR Meeting:
Pierre Descoteaux, Janice Archer, Tricia Wood, Daniel Roman, Lona Demers, Ivelisse Alvarado, Victoria Buckley, Jerry Cormier, Rita Powers, Jaya Levy, Terry Prew, Mary Ann Velardi, Lynn Sousa , Karen Wheelden, Linda Estrella, Erika Ritz, and Sally McCue discussed the initial plans from the Housing Committee. Members are looking to look for possible funding in the local area. While thanking The HART House residents for the hospitality and luncheon, we agreed the next meeting will be an Alcohol or Addiction Recovery Awareness Roundtable Discussion, Lowell City Hall,
scheduled for April 27th. Please come!

Despite snow, Amos Marshall, Ray Hoitt, Julia Sheehan reviewed plan to partner with MBHP to do recovery community advocacy outreach to parents of adolescents, who are in MBHP contracted services. MBHP’s goal is to promote alcohol and drug screening, as an intervention measure- as well as client advocacy. Diane Kurtz , Springfield member, a Parent Support Group Facilitator will write the outreach promotional. Interested in MOAR Recovery Community members within the City of Boston, - come talk with Kattie Portis, April 4th. Recovery Month Planning, too!

Attendees focused on their current energetic list of activities, and ways MOAR would be valuable. Follow up contacts will be made in the community to begin MOAR in New

March 20th Worcester Plans April 17th MOAR Alcohol Awareness Event
Worcester attendees, Rich Harris, Judy Langlois, Mark Rebello, Margot Matthews, Buddy Brousseau, Ron D’Auteil, James Casteil, and Louie Caplan have outlined
a speakers event --- to highlight recovery and reduce stigma. We thank AdCare
