MOAR President
Amos Marshall and Dana Moulton testified at the DPH Public Hearing.
Both validated
provider exemption process requirement for certain employment positions and a broader appeals process in the
emergency regulations. However, employer
right to hire
with proof of CORI check was stated preference over current emergency
regulations. Next- the DPH Council will review testimonies, and vote by mid
December.

W MA School SA Counselors Conference October 12
Pete Crumb, W
MA School SA Counselors President, welcomed participants -
parents,
adolescents, providers, legislators, judges, insurers, communities to bridge
systems to help youth integrate recovery.
DPH Commissioner Howard Koh keynoted the event – emphasizing the
Department’s commitment to adolescents and families via improving services
through hiring plans, continuum assessment, and interagency communication. For
MOAR, this was an opportunity to support the faces and voices of recovery,
especially the families, to influence improved services for our youth.

MOAR Members Want to Change The Conversation
about Addiction
by the faces
and voices of recovery, inclusive of families, friends. From Boston to
Springfield,
People talked about adolescent recovery – energized to facilitate improved
emergency room, service provider assessment, and insurance coverage. In
Springfield, we were educated about Club Drugs via Tina Murphy, DEA Office. So
you get educated about signs and symptoms – what happens next??? Your kid gets sent home from the emergency
room - with a paper saying- “Do not use drugs”. Not kidding! MOAR is
represented at four regional youth meetings across state. MOAR went to Senator
Kennedy’s Office with other advocates concerned about discriminatory coverage,
access, and policy issues. Boston is
planning a February Public Forum and wants your help! Lowell reviewed ways for each member to “push” MOAR flyers, as
invitations to do MOAR. The issue of
affordable, accessible, available housing builds it way at every Lowell, New
Bedford, and Worcester meeting. Worcester began a Housing Access Committee, and
divided into Resource and Advocacy Development Committees. Interested?
Don’t forget we will have a statewide quarterly meeting in January!
